Suika Seattle is a Izakaya/tapas bar’s with a very prominent feature. They have an iridescent chandelier made of old sake bottles, which stays hidden from the plain view of the bustling city of Seattle. With no major signs leading to it, this gem is for those who are extremely familiar with the city, and for those with wanderlust. Which is how I was led to it.
While the customers sit around the tables, waiting for their food, they may be mesmerized by the sheer beauty and characteristic decoration of this place. Surrounded by beautiful brick walls, this place is what famous bars wish they could be.
However, all else is forgotten when the food arrives. Although the menu has a range of Japanese cuisines and drinks, it is not too overwhelming and the prices are very reasonable. Menu for the day is also given on the side, giving the customers more variety.
Most Popular Dishes
Suika Seattle offers eight different starters, the most popular one being the Uni Shooter. It is what seems like the sea in a shot glass. Sea urchin, salmon caviar, seaweed sauce, shiso, and sushi rice, all mingle in your mouth. The key is to not swallow them all together, like a shot, but to chew and enjoy the flavors that so many ingredients offer.
Another starter that is ordered a lot is the Corn Kara-Age, which is corn served with soy butter and aonori (green laver). Its salty taste will prepare you for the delights that have yet to come. There are starters for everyone. For Kimchi lovers, there is Kyuri Kimchi; for those looking for spice, there is Tako Wasabi, along with starters made with shrimp and salmon.
One of the popular main courses is Sashimi, with the meat and fish cut with such delicacy, it’ll please even food critics. Customers can choose between Hamachi, Tuna, Salmon, Sashimi Salad as well as Octopus. Or if they are in the mood to go all out, they can order three or five types of Sashimi. Suika Seattle really is aiming to impress!
Another dish frequently ordered is The Hellz Ramen, from the rice and noodles section. With the secret spice ground pork and in-house Ox-tail broth, this dish really amazes the customers, who are pleased to find that serving size of pork is quite large as well. It is spicy enough and the broth is rich and flavorful.
Varieties of Food
For all the salad-lovers, Suika Seattle presents six different salads, ranging from potato to healthy green salad to Spicy Poke Salad. Not only do these salads, with their artful presentation, look Instagram worthy, but they also taste delicious.
The seafood and meat courses are presented beautifully, dancing with colors. Of the wide variety presented, Pork Rib Kara-Age seems to a favorite amongst customers. It is served with miso cream and garnished with lemon slices and coriander. Safe to say, the presentation does not disappoint. The taste is also quite good, with the house spice mix and crunchy exterior, it lives up to the expectations.
For battera pressed sushi, the most popular dish seems to be the Aburi Saba Battera. The sesame soy and mustard dressing perfectly complements the lightly seared mackerel and sushi rice. Like other dishes, this one is also presented with delicacy and taste.
For the grand finale, Suika Seattle serves its specialty, Matcha Crème Brulee. Different from the normal crème Brulee, this one has a green tea flavor to it. Its soft ice cream texture is complemented by a crunchy burnt sugar top.
Conclusion
The ideas behind the dishes truly stand out and showcase this little place as an amazing Japanese restaurant. For all those who like Japanese food and are in Seattle, definitely check out this place!
You will not be disappointed.
