We spent Michelle’s 2018 birthday in San Francisco – after traveling for so many weddings, it was nice to spend the weekend in our city.
Bowling at Fifth Arrow
We started the day at a new bowling alley in Union Square called Fifth Arrow, formerly known as a club called Slide.
The venue was fun, but the bowling pins were held up by strings and were not reliable. Also, we had an issue where a ball was stuck for roughly 15 minutes. The venue was kind enough to give us extra time, but it was still a hassle.
Dinner at Nabe
We then went to Nabe for dinner, which is Michelle’s favorite restaurant in the Marina. Since there was eight of us, we had a chance to try several different hotpot options. We recommend the Shabu Shabu with beef – the beef is light years ahead of the pork.
Birthday Dinner at Liholiho
Finally, we spent her actual birthday at Liholiho. We started with drinks downstairs from Liholiho called Louie’s Gen Gen Room, which is a great place to grab a couple drinks and hang out.
Liholiho is notorious for long waits – if you don’t have a reservation, Louie’s Gen Gen Room is a great way to hack the system. You can put your name in, enjoy a couple drinks downstairs, and odds are they will have a table ready for you within an hour. We’re glad we stumbled into this, and will definitely try it again in the future.
The evening was topped off with a sparkler as a candle for Michelle’s dessert. Fun fact – everyone else seemed to be here for their birthdays as well!
